This particular form of hypnotherapy takes advantage of the wonderful natural state that we call trance.
Hypnosis or 'trance' is a very normal state of mind. It's a state we experience many times a day; when we find our minds wandering. We might call it daydreaming or have a feeling of not being entirely present, on a car journey or watching the TV perhaps.
We use hypnosis in the sessions to recreate this relaxed state of mind, during which we can introduce positive suggestions to the unconscious (or sub-conscious) part of the brain, which can affect positive changes in habits and thinking patterns. The hypnosis aspect of the therapy is a state of deep relaxation. It's the same state of mind as when we are in trance. We all experience trance in our everyday lives; it's a very natural state for us to be in. It's that experience of driving whilst your mind drifts off somewhere else. Although you feel like you've missed something, it's actually a state of very focused attention and is incredibly productive. During our therapy sessions, we access this state to help you to create new, effective patterns of thinking and action.
SFH is future-orientated and is designed to reduce anxiety and calm the mind. As the name suggests it focuses on solutions for the future rather than analysing problems of the past. Solution Focused Hypnotherapy uses practical, modern, and well-researched strategies to help you to make significant, positive changes in your life in a relatively short period of time. We look at what the you want to achieve (the solution) rather than dissecting the cause of the problem.
During your initial consultation, we will get clear on what you are hoping for from our work together (if you're not absolutely sure yet, don't worry, we'll cover that).
You will gain some understanding about why you are experiencing what you are from a neurological perspective, and what we can do to change it. We'll discuss the number of sessions you might need as well as the structure of the sessions.
There's no hypnosis in this first session as it's a chance for us to get to know each other and to get you off to a really good start on your journey. You can ask any questions that you have and we'll establish the best course of action.
Many clients report feeling a weight lifting after this first session combined with feelings of increased hope and optimism. Things really do start to change here.

You will get guided meditations to listen to whilst we are working together and supporting materials. There may be 'homework' to do but none of it is challenging or very time-consuming.
I can't make you do anything you don't want to do, nor would I want to!. Your subconscious mind is constantly alert to anything unusual or out of context. I cannot take control of your mind, or input any suggestion which is contrary to your beliefs or values. Your subconscious mind is very well equipped to reject any suggestion which is not relevant or appropriate to you. My motivation is to get you to where you want to be in the most efficient and constructive way possible!
Stage hypnotism is a very different thing. It's about the performance. 'Volunteers' are carefully vetted to ensure they'll meet certain criteria for entertainment value.
We don't do that in my sessions!
