What Is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy isn’t about being “put under” or losing control.

Hypnotherapy combines two or more distinct modalities: Psychotherapy (talking therapy) and Hypnosis (A form of deep relaxation or trance).


It’s an advanced form of guided relaxation that helps to access the subconscious part of your mind, the part that quietly runs the show, where beliefs, habits, and automatic responses are formed through experiences and learned patterns.


As your nervous system settles the busy analytical part of your brain slows down. This allows energy to shift away from stress-driven survival responses, toward networks linked with learning, creative thinking, strategy, and problem solving. Hypnotherapy promotes active neuroplasticity; the brain’s ability to form new neural pathways. 


During hypnosis, the subconscious becomes more receptive to healthier, more helpful suggestions that are guided by you.

Hypnotherapy is a combination of hypnosis (hypno'), and Psychotherapy (therapy); a talking therapy.


Most people can. Hypnosis is a natural state of focused attention, similar to being absorbed in a book or film. The key ingredient is willingness, not belief.


No — you stay aware and in charge. Hypnosis is more like guided daydreaming than sleep. You’ll never be asked to do anything that conflicts with your values or comfort.


It depends on your goal. 

Many clients experience real progress within 3–6 sessions; some prefer a single, focused session for a specific habit or concern. For longer-term challenges, 8-12 sessions might be beneficial.
